The Nerdy Bit

EDR (Endpoint Detection & Response) watches behavior, not just known virus signatures. Old-school antivirus asks "does this file match a known virus?", useless against brand-new ransomware. EDR asks "is something acting like an attack?" A process suddenly encrypting hundreds of files, PowerShell doing something sketchy, a 3am login from another country: it spots the pattern, isolates the machine, kills the process, and rolls back the damage automatically.

MDR (Managed Detection & Response) adds a human Security Operations Center watching those alerts around the clock, so a 2am attack gets a real response, not an email you read at 9am.
